Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity. -- Pema Chodron
Hi, I'm Michele.
Let me tell you a bit about myself.
Work Experience
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and educational consultant living and working on the unceded land of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples in Victoria, BC. I am committed to providing care and support to individuals, families, and couples as they navigate a variety of life challenges and transitions.
I hold a Master’s of Counselling degree from City University and two degrees from the University of British Columbia. I am a member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC# 21842), and I have been a BC Teacher Regulatory Branch educator since 1994 (TRB# L140970).
I have travelled many roads throughout my own life and I have had the honour of learning alongside inspiring mentors, teachers, and peers across domains, including clients and learners.
I have worked in a variety of contexts for over 25 years, including in private counselling/psychology practices, public and independent schools, in home learning environments, and with the Island Medical Programme (UBC/UVIC) as a clinical teaching associate.
I am grateful to have such a varied professional and personal background. My lived experiences have helped me to grow in many ways that I draw on in service of the people I work with in my practice.
Life Experience
I am a cisgendered/straight (cishet) woman and use the pronouns she/her. I live with my family: my husband of 30 years, our two children, our dog and two cats. We identify as a neurodivergent family and have navigated years of challenges related to interacting with neurotypical expectations and structures.
I am also the proud parent of a queer, non-binary adult child. As a family, we have navigated collective and individual journeys exploring ideas of identity, belonging, self-efficacy, collective care, justice, and empowerment.
I love spending time outside - in the garden, at the beach, or in the forest. Nature is my medicine, and I privilege this connection in my practice through 'nature walks' and 'walk & talks'. I have a black labrador named Willow; she is a stalward companion who frequently accompanies me at work.
I characterize myself as a passionate life-long learner who strives to live with humility and compassion, and is dedicated to a practice of gratitude.
If you have questions for me or want to say hello, I’d love to hear from you. You can email me at michele@worthcounselling.ca.
Kindly,
Michele
I am deeply privileged to walk alongside others as they navigate life’s challenges and changes.
